Golf Skill Sets

Golf is a game of skill sets. If you want to play to your potential and enjoy the game with others, you need to develop all four skill sets and learn how to integrate them. The sill sets are:

Psyological: vision, strength, flexibility, balance and endurance.

Physics: An understanding of the mechanics and physics of the swing, the physics of ball flight, and the physics of you. In order to play to your potential, what makes the ball do what it does and what makes you do what you do.

Mental: The game requires mental skills. That means course management skills and self management skills as you work toward a healthy balance between your game strengths and weaknesses.

Social: It's a game of etiquette. The rules of golf are centered around the idea of fair play and the rules of golf. The basic rule is to play the ball where it lies and take no unfair advantage.

The objective of this site is help you improve your game skills so you can play to your potential.

Tip of the Day

"Carry the Tray"
At the top of the swing imagine and feel as though you're carrying a tray of glasses with your right hand. As you start the down swing, imagine and feel you're tipping and moving the tray and glasses toward the ball but still keeping them on the tray as you accellerate. Continue with the objective of moving the tray and glasses down the line with the idea of throwing them down the line.

As you do so, swing through the ball and follow through. Let the hands release freely and roll and point down the line. As you follow through let your shoulders turn and face and turn through the target and target line.

Don't force the release because it's impossible to control. Things are happening too fast. If you try to, you will end up "steering" the ball all over the place. Right, left, open, closed....all over the map.
